On The Daily Climate Show with Anna Jones:

- could veganism be the answer to global warming? One group of scientists say that by stopping farming animals for food, greenhouse gas emissions would fall by the equivalent of a 68% reduction in carbon dioxide.
- and as the number of koalas declines around the world, there's some good news from Longleat Safari park as the first Southern Koala to be born in Europe emerges from his mother's pouch for the first time.

Just because it vegan, doesn't make it sustainable.

I love that to lower gas emissions we they look to meat production instead of all of the old pollution heavy vehicles.

No. The carbon cost of a vegan diet is worse than that of a traditional diet. My pork isn't being shipped from the other side of the world by diesel power. Whereas much of the vegan diet is.

Put Green House Backpacks on every farm animal and drive electric vehicles.

When meat becomes too expensive to afford people will gladly enjoy plant alternatives. Til then asking people to change how or what they eat is extremely difficult.

A lot of people turn vegan for a variety of reasons including concerns about the climate and how animals are treated prior to being slaughtered. I share some of their concerns, however humans have been eating meat for about 2.5 million years. It remains an important part of our diet and will continue to do so for as long as humans walk this earth. Unfortunately we now live in an age where most people are so detached from the process of hunting and preparing meat for consumption. It's the same with growing fruits and vegetables. We have almost completely forgotten where our food comes from. Less people grow their own food compared to previous generations which is really a sad thing. When our ancestors needed to eat, they did their own foraging and hunting. All the meat would have been cooked over a fire, clothing was made from the skins and fur, and tools were made from some of the bones. Nothing was wasted. If they didn't do any of those things, they would not have survived. Unlike modern day humans, our ancestors didn't go to the local supermarket down the road, or sit around on their backsides all day tapping away on a smartphone and then order dinner from one of those stupid take away delivery services that have become so common these days.

Going vegan should be a no brainer for us as individuals to do our part.

(from Bill Gates' book) " 19% of the greenhouse emissions Worldwide are emitted by "growing things", i.e. growing animals and plants (also, but not only, to feed animals)". Being Vegan it's been a discovery for me, I was skeptical at first as I didn't want to quit on dairy products and eggs, particularly. I now feel much healthier and in harmony with the environment.
