the metal container was easier to see at all times, perfect for when someone tunes in without context, also children could understand the situation faster. If they just tuned in mid duel they probably wouldn't understand at first why Tea had a pill on her mouth, but seeing her strapped with a container above her head is a situation that instantly explains itself

In the videogame Yugioh The Sacred Cards, they actually used this detail from the manga.

Just with the diffrence that it was a capsule of "generic" poison(Aka they don't specify what it is) instead of cyanide.(Or this may be an undocumented localization change, idk)

The container and crane even makes sense since it was by the sea with the big ship.

I'd asume that probably the container might be more suitable for the anime because it's a bigger and easier thing to look at rather than a pill (?)
