Nugai puts to shame Onosato's first year in Makuuchi.

I tend to think that if somebody won 4 yusho in a row, they might kind of cast aside the ranking system and just promote that individual and give him the rope...

The 2 yusho at Ozeki is the rule.. But the "spirit" of that rule is to make sure that any newly promoted Yokozuna is acrually a dominant rikishi who is about to establish a multiple yusho career... This individual has already proben that hahaha. Nugai is obviously a rikishi on the rise! I think he would get a rope after 4 in a row, no matter where he is on the banzuke! It might even establish a new precedent! 4 in a row automatic white belt! Hahaha

Im so stoked for the dual-arc happening with Takeru and Ono. I hope they stay healthy and we get another awesome rivalry at the top. Been a while since we had 2 Yokozuna

Tochigiyama, Futabayama, Terukuni, Terunofuji all made Yokozuna after 2 tournaments as Ozeki (in Teruno's case, sure, it was a second time at Ozeki). Terukuni is the only one of the other 3 to do it with 15-day basho. And the other two were the ones who actually won both Yusho at Ozeki, but before they didn't fight 15 bouts.
Then there's Chiyonoyama who also won his first two basho at Ozeki, but was not promoted because the second one was 12-3 and they felt he was too young (with 3 able Yokozuna there). He was promoted a year later after winning with 14-1, despite the 8-7 in the previous tournament for reasons wikipedia doesn't say.
So if Nugai is a young gai, I mean, guy, it's possible they wouldn't promote him with just two basho at Ozeki. On the other hand, if he is Japanese... who knows!

I find it quite neat how one year is exactly the time it would take a newcomer (to Makuuchi) to reach yokozuna with perfect sumo.

I mean, Terunofuji pretty much did this, except he had one "off" tournament. M17 in July 2020, Yokozuna promotion after July 2021. If it wasn't for his 8-5-2 at Aki 2020, he would have done it in the minimum 6 basho.

Ask Terunofuji, he did nearly this from M17. 6 Basho. You must have 3 from M1-S for your Ozeki run, then 2 more at Ozeki to make Yokozuna, the only reason Terunofuji did not do it in 5 is because his M1 basho he was hurt and got kachi koschi then pulled out. A truly meteoric version would be double digits at M1 to start your ozeki run then 2 further 12+ basho to get Ozeki followed by back to back yusho for Yokozuna. 5 total from M17.

So, which rikishi was the fastest to make Yokozuna, after hitting Maegashira?
