If you're new to my channel, what you can expect from me is a vinyl collector's approach to the jazz genre. For years, I've only collected vintage pressings and prioritized originals of Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Bethlehem, Riverside, New Jazz, and more classic labels. Lately, with the resurgence of the medium and more collectors coming to the space, the music industry has taken notice and prioritized putting out high quality reissues of some of the best albums ever recorded. Subscribe to my channel to watch me navigate how to rationalize how I used to buy vs. how I buy vinyl records today.

Nice countdown.
My money would be on Rollins at the vanguard box set, which would be amazing

Nice survey of the 2024 releases, thanks! Yes the Transition titles will have their funky little booklets and blank back jackets, just like the OGs. And the labels will be designed to fall off. (Just kidding on that last part.) I'm thrilled with how these turned out sonically.

I think you’re dead on with the Sonny Rollins Village Vanguard box set prediction

I for one am excited for the Joe Lovano release! Killer album and that style of jazz is right up my alley.

Kofi was featured in the Blue Note Rare Groove Series in 1995. That was the first ever vinyl release. I like it a lot. Has that same kind of vibe as Fancy Free which is one of my favorite Byrd titles on Blue Note. Hubbard leaned towards a more softer tone in the 70s which was for great part due to switching to the Flugelhorn more often

28:08 People talk about his "hands off" approach, but Tom Wilson will always be #1 for me not only for his work on Transition but his work with the great 60's Dylan, Velvet Underground, and Simon and Garfunkle albums.

Quality over quantity, (or in this case timeliness). Your reviews are always the most in depth, and provide me with the info to help me plan out which releases are definites for me to grab, which are borderline, and which are passes. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this for us!

Joe Harley said in a facebook comment that the three Transition titles scheduled for next year are the only three that Blue Note has the rights to.

Very glad that you fought jet lag to do this! And thanks for pointing out that only two titles were also Blue Note 75 reissues. I'm expecting my new Wayne Shorter "Night Dreamer" Tone Poet today (I think -- it was released 11/17/23) and I'll be curious to compare it to my Bernie Grundman BN 75 version -- which sounds pretty darn good, but I can imagine it sounding better. I'm particularly happy to see the Bobby Hutcherson, Kenny Dorham and Blue Mitchell titles on the docket for 2024. No complaints. But I'd always be happy with more '60s Horace Silver (from "Horace-Scope" to "Jody Grind"), though they do seem to be putting out one or two Silver titles on every calendar. I have some earlier reissues of a few of these forthcoming Tone Poet titles (like "Taru, " "Action, " "Let Freedom Ring, " "Down With It, " "Tex Book Tenor, " "Slice of the Top"...) in either LT versions (great-sounding) or Liberty or Scorpio or Connoisseur pressings (I'll have to check) but I welcome spiffed-up editions!

Thanks again for your thoughts on TP releases. I normally go for about a quarter of all of the annual TP releases and for me also is quality over quantity. If we were all buying 24 TPs per year, combined with most of the BN Classics...not to mention releases from other 'analog' houses like AP, Acoustic Sounds, Impex, Speakers Corner etc...we'd be drowning in LPs and would not have time to listen even half of those, just sitting pretty on the shelf. I have had done that in the past, admittedly, but these days I buy to listen, not to collect. Thank again.
