Henry Normal is one of the genius creators behind iconic British TV shows Gavin and Stacey, Alan Partridge, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh and many more you know and love. He’s also a poet! Having published ten poetry collections and two volumes of collected works with Flapjack Press, Henry joins us on Meet the Poet to read tentative work on ideas of the home; discussing his experiences in TV and film, comedy and his drive to write.

Who is he?
Henry Normal is a writer, poet and TV and film producer who lives in Brighton with his wife, screenwriter Angela Pell, and their son, Johnny. Henry set up Baby Cow Productions with Steve Coogan in 1999 and was its managing director until his retirement in 2016.
In June 2017 Henry was honoured with a special BAFTA for services to television. Earlier in 1999 he was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award, Best Entertainment Category, for Steve Coogan: The Man Who Thinks He's It. Henry has been awarded honorary degrees by both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University and is a Patron of Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature. He has also had a beer and a bus named after him in his home city of Nottingham.
Henry Normal is a well-known name in the poetry world and he regularly performs his poetry at festivals. He founded the Manchester Poetry Festival and co-founded the Nottingham Poetry Festival. Since retiring in April 2016, Henry has written and performed seven BBC Radio 4 shows which combine comedy, poetry and stories about his life and family: A Normal Family, A Normal Life, A Normal Love, A Normal Imagination, A Normal Nature, A Normal Universe and A Normal Communication.
