I always loved Funaki. You don’t always have to be a top guy to have a memorable run.

Funaki is one of those workers that may not have been your favorite when you were younger but you damn sure remember him. He should be next to the term Workhorse in the wrestling dictionary. Dude did everything he was asked and did it with a smile on his face, not to mention he is a fantastic worker.

One of the feel good moments in the WWE. For one night Funaki went from jobber to being as popular as the Rock.

I remember this. The Japanese crowd were such polite fans and didn't try to derail the show. I remember they went to Japan again during Raw or Smackdown when Tajiri was the cruiserweight champion and he too got cheered. I think at this time, Funaki, Tajiri and Kenzo Suzuki were the only Japanese wrestlers in the WWE.

This almost made me cry for a multitude of reasons. Outside of Funaki being such a long and dedicated workhorse who never truly received his flowers from the WWE, he’s also such a kind and genuinely good person. Then to top it all off just having that representation for so many little boys and girls who grew up loving wrestling just like so many of us is moving.

Lower mid card getting his shine 🙂 it really is moments like this that make you appreciate wrestling. No matter how small you are, if you're good at what you do you have a fan base. You can say what you want but that man never failed to put in work, ever

“This is Funaki! Smackdown’s Number 1 Announcer!”

He’s always been my favorite! From Kaientai with Taka Mishinoku to being the #1 announcer in WWE!

I think they made him cruiserweight champion for this very moment

Funaki was super underrated & wasn't around long enough for most to remember. His catch phrase is what most people remember. He was a great worker & worthy of that title back then.

People dont understand the amazing massive following guys like Funaki and Tajiri had in Japan. These guys are regarded as some of the greatest wrestlers from across the pond. The dedication, the commitment, the passion. Nobody could ever knock guys like Funaki for the sheer love of the buisness that they had.
