Handling and characterizing membrane metalloenzymes from native organisms

Talk Abstract: CryoEM has revolutionized structural studies of membrane proteins over the last decade. Combined with membrane mimetics such as lipid nanodiscs, cryoEM allows for detergent-free structural determination of membrane proteins within a lipid bilayer more closely matching the native environment. I will discuss the process of embedding a methane-oxidizing enzyme in lipid nanodiscs and how structure determination within the bilayer gives new insight into the function of the enzyme.
