Canada election: What does affordability mean to you?

Affordability and the rising cost of living are becoming some of the top issues during the Canadian federal election, according to new polling by Ipsos for Global News. For those who may have lost their job due to the COVID-19 pandemic the topic is even more top of mind.

The pandemic also disproportionately impacted young workers. With Gen Z and Millennials now making up the biggest cohort of eligible voters, it could result in pushing them to certain parties over others. Polling shows the NDP currently leading in terms of being best able to tackle the issue of affordability, with the Liberals in second place.

But the term affordability means different things to different voters. As Anne Gaviola explains, the rising cost of living is hitting households across the country and people have strong opinions on what they want federal leaders to do about it.

If Canada can afford to bring in Refugee's then Canada can afford to house and feed all here. I was not raised to look at Welfare as a way of living. I have lived within my means my whole life. Now here in B.C. there is far to little housing, there are hungry, people living in their If we can send hundreds of millions over seas then by Christ we can spend it on Canadians.

Affordability only if municipal government can lower down their already skyrocketing development charges on devopers which pass onto end purchasers.

People who vote for free things are single-handedly responsible for the outrageous costs of living in Canada. Kids are a significant responsibility, don't have them if you are not capable in taking care of them without having to ask other people to pay for them.

OMG I am so tried of people crying about child care. I raised my kids with out using tax payers money. Why the hell should I pay more taxes for some else 's child care. Affordable means having a PM who doesn't give away our tax dollars to other countries and spends every tax dollar he gets.

He loves Trudeau and it's called, say anything to win. Do as I say, not as I do. Didn't think you could pay someone for their vote. Looks like I am wrong. Don't any of you remember people kind. Look back remember why we are where we are. Look at our schools hear the things going on in some schools. Listen to your kids.

This man. Trudeau has got to go. I remember being an influenced millennial still in my early 20s when I saw an opportunity, he wanted all Canadians to see. Today after 6 years of observation and active political interest I feel that he really needs to go. Think about his mistakes and his scandal plagued Liberals. One after the other, The Aga Khan Chapter, Costumes in India (laughable), Costumes (black face), SNC Lavalin Scandal, Groping Allegations, oh and the most forgotten WE scandal. I don't even like to call it a WE scandal. It seems that we all forgot about this scandal because he was fortunate for COVID to take the limelight away from him. All these things surfaced in less than 5 years. I am surprised he survived this long. Long ago I felt we were a great nation that provided a good life for people of all backgrounds. His government changed it. Changed it for the worst. Wake up Canada and please vote!

It used to be that a family could buy a house at 2 to 3 times their combined annual income. But due to lower interest rates, that has been raised to double that amount, so to me 'affordability' means that a couple, each earning the average $50, 000 should be able to buy a house that cost no more than 6 times the couple's income = $600, 000 maximum.

The only issue on the table is our country's freedom and liberty over tyrannical authoritarianism.

Why does everyone insist on owning a home? Everyone knows their prices are inflated and yet they still buy. You know renting is a thing right? You can always purchase a home later when the market crashes.
