In this video, we put 10 bilge pumps through their paces. The conditions: Reach a discharge head of exactly one metre and measure the time needed to pump 50 litres of water.

📌 Short description:
Small amounts of water can accidentally get on board through condensation, small leaks or water connections that are not completely sealed. To pump out unwanted water as quickly as possible, electric bilge pumps can be used.
Generally speaking, a bilge pump is a must on every boat, because in the event of an unexpected leak, an electric bilge pump ensures a high level of safety.

💡 Float switch vs. manual switch
Some bilge pumps feature a float or contact switch, automatically detect the current water level and switch the pump on and off by themselves. The float switch can be located outside or inside the pump. Other bilge pumps are operated via an external switch.

💡 Connection and accessories
The following accessories are required to connect a bilge pump correctly: - A sturdy hose that does not contract under certain pressure - Suitable hose clamps to connect the hose to the bilge pump - An appropriate fuse fitted in the positive line - A watertight cable connection to prevent possible corrosion

💡 Quick tip
In addition to general power output, the size of the hose diameter also matters. The larger the hose diameter, the higher the pumping capacity.
