I used to run a 50cc two stroke on petrol but it had a second small carb for nitromethane which only opened on full throttle. It worked.

we used nitromethanol mixed with 2 stroke at a 50/50 ratio on our racing scooters back in 1999 . we ended up winning the championship with 1st and 3rd . good luck

If I remember correctly, you’ll need close to 5 to 7 times the amount of nitro versus gasoline. Of course the methanol is like 2.5 times gasoline. So, It depends on what ratio is being mixed and also what the corrected altitude and weather stats of the moment are, but I’ll take a wild stab in the dark and say shooting for 4 times the fuel versus gas setup.

“... and There’s piston all over the plug. I think this means a teardown.” Infinite patience!!!! The zen master mechanic!

When I was probably about 12 years old, many, many moons ago, I had a Honda PA-50 moped. I put a piece of window screen in place of the stock air filter, cut took the muffler off, and eventually discovered model airplane fuel and unscientifically just tipped the bottle and poured some into the gas tank, mixing it with the conventional gas. It made a HUGE difference. Stock, going downhill it would top out like it had a governor, but with mods it would just keep revving. It was faster on flat ground and uphills too. I had two friends with mopeds that all ran the same until the mods. After the mods, one day we all hit the road (illegally) to go to 7-11 and I made thru a game of pinball and about half a slurpie before they got there! I never pulled a plug or touched the carb. Never hurt anything. I kept the secret from them through about a week of their badgering me and finally told them. One guy had success, the other melted a float in his carb. (Different brand moped, probably plastic vs brass if I had to guess) or he went crazy with the amount. Good times!!

We did this back in the late 70's early 80's... Always had idle and flow problems... Solved it by putting 12hp carb on a 5hp engine! also a super strong return spring. I love the smell.

Hey mate great video
But you need to add castor oil to the methanol or you won't get enough lubricant on the bearings, these fuels are designed for glow ignition engines and have different fuel to oil ratio. Keep up the great videos and I suggest you try methanol again ! Also you will need a carb that is meant for alcohol or methanol I think they have different materials in the seals
Also I'm no expert just a big rc and 2 stroke nut
And yes I've burnt up a 2 stroke with rc fuel before, my bike was going about 60 mph then I blew the rod bearings
Ahh and the smell of nitro is so amazing always reminds me of the drag strip and top fuel cars

you are the best on tube. loads of great videos. no messing about. cut well. no time waisted and to the point. awesome. keep it up.. currently doing my third dt125lc build and keeping this one so dont mind forcing the boundaries.. took note of your porting tech and other tips.. going to see what we get.. thanks fella. dan.

hopefully a small set back, great job keep it up. can't wait to see the numbers

Love watching your old videos I learn so much in every episode

I’m like the other commentators. I was mixing up all kinds of fuels from nitro to Av gas and trying to port and polish the riding mower and changing all the drive pulleys. My dad would get so angry with me messing with every motor I could find from the chainsaw to the lawnmower. Man you cooked that plug and piston.

Also decreasing the back pressure on the tip of the exhaust helps at the high rpm range

I have done with before, you need to throw a lot more fuel at the engine to avoid this kind of damage. It will run hotter and faster, so the extra lubricity of the fuel helps, but most importantly the volume of fuel helps keep things cool

We did the nitro fuel in a go-ped ONCE! It was spectacular. The trick was getting the block hot enough. Afterwards it cooled into one piece. But, it was awesome while it lasted

That's a cool ass bike. Like the set up. Nitro bike never heard of it until now.

Safety glasses bro. a piece of metal in the eye is no fun, and if it's not a alloy there is a very high chance the optometrist is going to be using a very simular tool to sand rust off your eye ball. if it gets behind your eye your rubber ducked, they will have to pop your eye out the socket then sand it while your awake. I was lucky and only had to have a needle in my eye to flick out the piece of zamac from under my cornea which had started to grow over it after only 24hrs. This might sound like bullish but if you don't believe me search eye rust removal. Peace out cool content just be safe.

You took that shockingly well. I figured we'd get at least on swear word outta ya.

You'll get it figured out. I have no doubt.

Keep hammering on it,
Jay

I believe that a rule of thumb when going from gas to methanol, you double the jet sizes plus some.. I'm no expert tho

dougbawden

I'm not sure if you know this now but when we covert out 4 stroke flathead racing engines from pump gas to straight methanol we have to increase the main jet almost 150% from stock

Amazing video!
Just being a smartass, don't mind me;) I think nitro-methane air/fuel ratio is around an insane 2:1, and methanol around 7:1!
I think you're absolutely right about running lean. A gasoline carb needs not just some tuning.. It has to provide more than 3 times the fuel!;)
I'm gonna watch your other parts now. Really really nice bike and video! Cool to see someone do this with the right knowledge.
A little question: why is the engine moving? and what about those springs
