Though it does not excuse the Chargers on this play -- he was shot. Look near 1:23 -- knee down when he needed beyond the 34 yard line. No way he's there.

Yeah he was almost an entire yard short of the first down, so don’t see how they could’ve possibly gave it to them. Regardless of all that though, it was still a spectacular play by Ray Rice even with him technically being like ½ a yard short.
