The Truth About Toilet Swirl - Southern Hemisphere

Some notes:
We each repeated the experiment 3 times, and got the same results every time. For those of you who might be skeptical, great! A right circular prismatic kiddie pool is only $10 and you can do the experiment for yourself at your latitude. There's really no reason you shouldn't do it for yourself.

Gordon McGladdery did all of the sound design for the video. We used two songs from other artists (licensed of course). Derek split the first one up so it fades from video to video, and Gordon split the instruments up on the second one. There are violins on one video and percussion on the other for example. It's really neat.

Unbelievable! This is the best execution of a YouTube based experiment I've ever seen! Way to go guys, this is going down in the hall of YouTube fame.

In case you don't want to read the description: we repeated this experiment at least three times in each hemisphere and saw the same effect every time. We were in fact replicating an experiment conducted at MIT and in the southern hemisphere in the 1960s which used an almost identical setup and got the same results. If you are not convinced by our findings we invite you to prove us wrong. Thanks for watching!

By accident I even arranged the windows right and got the timing pretty damn accurately. This must be one of the coolest things I've ever seen on youtube. Kudos to you, Sirs!

I was watching both videos at the same time and was so amazed how synchronized they were. Thank you guys for establishing this myth.

Honestly, the most amazing part of this set of videos(to me) was the score editing. The music playing on both videos as you give your explanation sounds complete on both, but when you play both together, it sounds like one composition. It's amazing!

Congratulations Derek and Destin! Two (or one) amazing videos, and what an effort to making them! It's so cool how you have demystified a mith explaining how it works with that elegance and making something more epic than just water spinning in a toilet. Thank you guys!

That idea to sync was just genius! Definitely learned something today. But guys, as soon as the sync ends, ears star bleeding (Especially when you're using earphones). Anyways, a great way to make people understand the effect with a practical and entertaining approach! Great job guys. Thank you for this amazing content.

This is so cool! The only problem is that I'll have to write this same comment in SmarterEveryDay's video.

yup, it works. My dog chases his own tail counter clockwise here in USA. Which direction does your kangaroo rotate after eating a Vegemite sandwich in the outbacks of the land down under, mate?

This was one of the best collaboration projects I've seen on YouTube, and I've been watching videos here since 2006. The side-by-side sync up was great (although I wish there was a simpler way to do it, having them synced from 0:00 would have been great)

Once I got then synced up though, GREAT STUFF! This was almost like Watching a WheezyWaiter video with the timing so solid and perfect, watching you guys walk to the other screen was great!

Winds blow away from high pressure. Swirling in the opposite direction from a low pressure system, the winds of a high pressure system rotate clockwise north of the equator and counter clockwise south of the equator.
This always happens in these large systems
