I knew nothing about meditation etc, Australian average atheist family. At the age of 11, I just got home from school, I was home alone, sitting on my bed, I suddenly started repeating a word, I watched the word closer and closer, observing every inflection, then boom I was everything, everything I looked at was me.
That word, “cupboard”
It’s not about the word, it’s about the mind, so a word from a guru or s powerful if you believe it is powerful, but like me as a child had no idea, simply observed the word… but why, I don’t know, other than it must be something from a past life. I used to also stare at a wall and everything would disappear, I was fascinated by these effects, but I was never told about these.

Hearing about JAPA from a revered vedantin like You is simply endearing. Yet to listen to it completely but the beginning itself is so captivating when You say, this is by far the most important lecture! My Guru says, believe in a saint by seeing what He says about NaamJapa because that is the essence of Adhyatma! মণ্ত্র নিয়ে বিশদে এই আলোচনা শুধুই যে ভালো লাগলো এমন নয়, মণ্ত্রের জোড় কী অপরিসীম হতে পারে, তার একটা ধারণা তৈরী হলো। বীজমণ্ত্র মানে will force জেনে খুব ভালো লাগলো। বীজমণ্ত্রের সঙ্গে যে ঈষ্টদেবতা যুক্ত আছেন, তাঁর শরণাগত হওয়া।
বিজ্ঞানের দৃষ্টিতে এটা cultivation of mental faculties!

অনেক রকম চিন্তা মাথার মধ্যে ভিড় করে আসে। একসময় মনে হয় সবকিছু পরিষ্কার হয়ে গেছে, আবার পরক্ষণেই মনেহয় (জাগতিক নানা ঘটনায়) সব কেমন অন্ধকার। আলোর খোঁজে সবসময় একধরনের অস্থিরতায় দিন কাটাচ্ছি।

Beautiful explanation of japa and how one can be initiated by a Guru.
My maternal great grandmother and grandfather had met Ma Sarada in Madras in 1911 and were initiated by Her. They were very fortunate to have been blessed by her and had received Her home for bhiksha. I came to know all the details only recently at the age of 70. I have never met them and I wish I could ask them about their personal experiences. Of course their experience was written in a journal published by Ramakrishna Mutt Chennai and my grandfather’s writing has been translated into Bengali and is in the Belur Mutt library. He called himself Sarada Dasan.
I wish I could get initiated too by a Guru. I seek the blessings of my elders to guide me. 🙏🏻
