I’m mesmerized by the amount of work it took to put just this plant together

Hi!!, I'm an indie game developer, and I'm making a game about research bases, so When I was searching for references, I accidentally discovered you. Thank you for saving me from thousands of miles of travel.

I love the analog 24-hour clock. In a place where half of the year is totally dark or totally light, I guess you'd need that.

They just don't want you to see the giant room filled with penguins running on big hamster wheels.

Thanks for giving us a fleeting glimpse into such a fascinating multi-disciplinary intersection of science, engineering, human wellness, and who knows what else Im too lazy to get in the minuteau of!

That construction crew gets mad respect.

Can't even imagine the construction and logistics of such a place

Reminds me of my time in the Navy. My boat was gas turbine. The exhaust was used for heat to make super heated steam. That kept us warm, for cooking, and making potable water

The powerplant in Fairbanks, AK also operates this way to cycle heat throughout the city's underground systems. Incredible engineering!

Your videos of life in Antarctica are very interesting and well done. I myself couldn't spend more than a few days there. I need to feel the warmth of a bright sun on me every few days.

I am _in love_ with that 24 hour analog clock.

Just finished a book about Rudolph Diesel. Really interesting story. Cool to see the plant runs on his engines.

Your power and heat from one fuel is a combined generation system or co-gen for short. My employer uses a natural gas turbine to spin a 12.4kv generator for building power with the exhaust used in a water boiler to create steam for building heat in the winter. In the summer we use the steam to spin a 1000 ton chiller for cooling several buildings.

Fascinating indeed. One on, one in standby, and one in maintenance. I was in the Coast Guard and because our job was so critical pretty much every important system on station had multiple redundancies. The concept was such a major priority that I use it in my own life all the time. Funny how that works.

I'm amazed they're not using a navy mini nuclear reactor because all the gas would cost a fortune to ship in.

My father work on the nuclear power plant (PM-3A) at McMurdo station in the 60s and early 70s. He had so many pictures and stories about Antarctica. Thanks for sharing your video.

My father was there in the 70s as a mechanic from Gough Gough and Hammer to sevice the catapillar equipment. They were treated as American officers

Amazing videos. As someone who's lived my entire life in a very cold and remote location, the attention to detail in keeping yourselves alive is right up my alley. Good luck down there!
