The thing that makes Cursed Energy be probably my favorite power system is how it is built in a way that it makes shonen tropes make sense in universe and be part of the system itself. The most obvious example is the "showing your hand" thing, but there's also the way in which the level of mastery that a sorcerer has over their own abilities correlates to how well they understant their own abilities and their own states of mind, since the energy comes from their emotions, which makes it so a character having a strong emotion or a new undertanding of themselves during a fight give them a new power up or just a better footing in the fight in general, which is a common trope, but that now makes sense in universe. And then there's also the way in which the power system revolves around specificly negative emotion, which can lead us to the conclusion that either people with naturaly stronger negative emotions are going to be stronger sorcerers or that people who are born sorcerers have stronger negative emotions in their life, which explains why, like in most shonens, every single character needs to have a sad backstory.

I've watched a lot of "ability explained" vids for this series. Every time I think i get it, the character uses it in a new way and i'm like "nope"

I think what makes cursed energy so interesting and well written is that it is built by multiple systems, the pacts, the equivalent exchange rules, the energy itself as reinforcement then the energy as fuel for techniques.

Cursed energy has to be one of the best power systems not just in new gen but of all time. The versatility and creative powers, and the many intricate parts of the system are just amazing.

One of the big problems I have with the reverse cursed techniques is that it seems limited in applications to extremely few actual techniques
I mean, sure, in theory it works easy. It's just "the reverse of the cursed technique" and we have the Gojo example
But Gojo's ability is actually very straightforward and is more of an exception among cursed techniques. What is the inverse of "i can summon things from my shadows" ? What is the inverse of "when I ratio things 7 to 3 and hit that specific division spot, I deal more damage" ? What is the inverse of "my hair is a freaking helicopter" ??? That's... really something i can't wrap my head around.

My favourite part of JJK's worldbuilding and power system is the binding vow. Not only is it a clever way to force the characters to reveal their techiques to the audience, but it also adds a bit of 'magic' and mystery to the JJK's world.
Edit: I just want to add that the JJK power system is actually pretty easy to understand, it's just that Akutami is pretty bad at explaining it in the manga.

I couple of things I'd like to add.
First, black flash specifically happens when you infuse a strike with cursed energy within a millionth of a second of the strike landing. This does require a perfected "flow" of cursed energy to accomplish, but that's not why it happens. It's also not random and so not technically impossible to do at will, just so difficult that it might as well be.
And second, there are consequences for breaking a binding vow. Breaking a vow with one's self seems to just mean that you lose the benefit of the vow, but - while not clear - the consequences for breaking a vow with another person are implied to be debilitating. A mass murderer with zero value for life (Mahito, for those in the know) thought better of breaking a binding vow, if that says anything about the severity of the consequences involved in doing so.

The best thing about "show your hand" is that characters actually have a reason to explain their ability.
