This can crusher is a great project to get the kids in the shop. It has a few simple parts and goes together quickly. The best part of all? When you've completed it, you can put it to work by cleaning up your recycling bins.

How about just extend the handle and the base to help prevent pinching your hand?

Put a depression/dent into the side of the can before crushing. That will weaken the can and reduce the required force.

Just seeing this now. But an easy solution to not crush your fingers.. have a longer handle.. plus it gives you more leverage to easier crush the cans..

When he suggested putting the right the floor and stomping on the handle doesn't it completely defeat the purpose.

Just put the can on the floor and stomp away

I would suggest altering this to fit on a trash can and add a slot at the bottom so crushed cans can fall directly into the bin.

How long did it take you to figure out your fingers would get crushed along with the can?

If you have to put it on the floor to crample the cans, wouldn't be easy to just step on the cans to crample them?

Add a grip above the end of the handle (parallel to the lever itself) so your fingers don't wrap around the handle and thus don't get crushed.

You can put an Additional raised handle on the present handle that way your hand can be out of the way and not get injured when crushing the can

Hi, this is such a great project, I was wondering if you could make a bin which crushed plastic bottles with a crushing plate? L shaped handle is all you need for more leverage and safe fingers.

Extend the metal legs attached to the crushing block to prevent your hand from getting pinched

I think it requires less work to just grab the can between your thumb and ring finger + middle finger and just crush it just like that.
