Ancient Greek Aulos Improvisation

Here is my latest improvisation on the aulos, an ancient greek instrument based off an artifact housed in the Louvre Museum dating to the Hellenistic period.

The two pipes both have a range of a major sixth and are offset by a perfect fourth. You can change the tuning of the lowest note by covering tone holes with wax as I have done here.

The aulos, a double-reeded musical instrument, played a crucial role in the music and culture of ancient Greece. Join me on a journey back in time as I revive the haunting melodies that once echoed through temples, theaters, and festivals.

This performance showcases the intricate techniques and emotive power of the aulos, bringing to life the rich musical heritage of classical antiquity. Perfect for history enthusiasts, music lovers, and anyone interested in the ancient world.

Holy cow, you might just be the best player of this instrument I've heard. Incredibly beautiful playing! You really bring the all the instrument's qualities to fore, with an elegance I haven't heard elsewhere.
