Hier werden zum Teil Äpfel mit Birnen verglichen.

Bei Paris oder Madrid ist es die Agglomeration, bei Berlin lediglich das Stadtgebiet.

It's not the city population but the metropolitan area. Barcelona is around 1.6M and Madrid is 3.3M. Big difference.
