Manic Miner for BBC Micro - complete playthrough / longplay

A completed run through of Manic Miner for the BBC Micro, with a dramatic ending where I go down to the last life on the last level. It was very hard to "hold it together!"

This recording was the third attempt to capture a complete unaided play through, and captures the first time I've ever achieved it.

The final 2 levels in this game are very different from the ZX Spectrum original. Many of the familiar screens also seem to differ in timing very slightly - I had to forget what I knew from the Spectrum version and learn from scratch.

I practiced each level, the harder ones many times over, on a real BBC B (using a save-state device) before finally getting to the point where I thought there is probably a 50/50 chance I may be able to get to the end in a real playthrough.

It is a bit clumsy - on the first level and on The Processing Plant some of the jumps are timed badly but I get away with murder, Miner Willy apparently colliding badly with enemies but surviving. This is the way with the BBC version - it's quite crude. Further, everything slows down a bit when Willy is moving, and some screens with lots of enemies become very sluggish, requiring you to adjust your timing between direction keys and jump key to pull off the harder jumps.

Amazing! I always wanted to see the final levels of the BBC version! Spent so long playing it, many years ago.

Best ending ever -😂 You know the dev never thought anyone would make it all the way.
