As a Spurs fan I watched the highlights and was shocked at that ref decision. Cmon guys if this happened to any of our clubs we would be livid.Refereeing needs a drastic shake up.

It was the whole process of the delay tactics that rice was showing. Not moving out of the way and then tapping the ball away when they wanted to take the free kick quickly.
Then he throws himself to the floor like he had been shot when the Brighton player went to kick the ball.

It wasn’t even letter of the law. Veltman or whoever it was purposely rolled the ball to Rice’s feet as he walked away. You could see the ball bounce off Rice’s heel. Rice barely taps it away and then gets kicked in the knee. Dude wasn’t even playing the ball. Who’s the guy who gets sent off? Rice!

as an arsenal fan, i've seen players get carded for stuff like that b4. Jimenez got a second yellow for wolves 2 seasons ago (i think) for something similar. the defender's foot was already in motion to kick the ball in play when rice intervened. by doing so, he stopped the play which is why he got that second yellow

Preventing a quick restart of the game is punishable with a yellow card. Rice ran afoul of the law and he was duly punished. Its a testament to his dimwittedness that he made that decision even with a prior yellow card warning.
