My mom left when I was 13. Got a job at 13 (lied about my age) driving on the freeways etc by 15 so I could go see my sister in the halfway house and got a drivers license at 18. Had my first apartment my SR year in high school when I was 17.. I didn’t have a choice.. and I was raised around drugs alcohol and with a whole lot of grace I did not fall down that pit.. i am GRATEFUL!!!

When we were kids we could all sit in one seat in the station wagon. This was perfect for our Mom, cuz when we started arguing she could turn around and smack all 4 of us in one swift hand .... and never leave her lane.

I gotta say, my 14 year old grandson got a job last summer that lasted through February. He quit because he made more than enough to buy the computer and accessories he wanted and it was interfering with band and school because they kept adding hours. They wanted him to stay cuz he was one of their best workers. I am so proud.

I can totally relate to the “ my generation “ talk. I’d say me too…but in this day and age, it means something completely different, so shall not. Suffice it to say, at 19yrs old, three jobs, on my own, paying rent and bills, and saving my money, I bought my first house.
