Inside, he found a small capsule. Inside the capsule was a letter and a medal. The letter revealed that the tree contained the ashes of the dogs former owner. A police officer had died in the line of duty, and the medal bore his name. Tears filled the owners eyes as he realized that his faithful companion Kyle had been searching for years. He had found this lost object of his departed friend and that he could finally mourn him.

So the owner grabbed his chainsaw and cut the tree in half. Inside was a capsule. There was a letter and the ashes of the dogs previous owner/parter (a cop). He was looking for his missing item and he found it.

(Also yall probably already know this but I want to clarify again, if you get a retired police dog and they start freaking out over and over about something, call the cops! There is probably something going on that you don’t know about. Please don’t hate because of this reminder)

Nah its not a person, its just an alien tree that wanted to eat all of the humans, then the dogs used the power of loving the humans and blasted the alien trees freezing them in place. The owners nowadays dont remember the battle of the dogs, but the dogs never forgot.
