Jumbo Perch on the Mississippi River

Ice fishing jumbo perch on the Mississippi River backwaters on the Wisconsin/ Iowa border. The backwaters, side channels and oxbows on the river create excellent habitat for panfish. Jason Mitchell joins Bill Ortiz on an airboat adventure to access some of the best perch locations.

I moved to Minnesota a couple of years ago and started fishing the Mississippi. You’re right, I didn’t associate the Mississippi River with panfish, but the monster bluegill we have found in pool 4 blew my mind!

Jason, I was watching some of your videos for Perch, Crappie, and Walleyes. You seem to mention the make and model of the pole but never the power if it is an Ultralight or light/ med. I just want to make sure I buy the correct one I see your team using.

Come back down in the spring for trout. Yellow river and Paint creek are awesome fly fishing rivers right down the road from where you were!

Very hard to get to good backwaters without getting a ticket for trespassing. Railroad will call you in due to crossing the tracks. Usually that's the only way to access. I guess air boats beat the system.
