I presented this dilemma to a Muslim friend of mine when he told me the Bible was corrupted by the Jews and Christians. His response was "I don't know, this is just what I've been taught". In other words "I don't care to critically think this through or continue this discussion, I'm happily brainwashed so let's talk about something else".

The greatest miracle of the Qurans is the miracle of reinterpretation: anyone can interpret Qurans whichever way suits him.

Farid: Muslims don't ask about the Quranic dilemma because if you're aware of this problem, you're no longer a Muslim. It's called survivorship bias (Muslims are - by definition- those who are unaware of this problem or have overcome it, so if their faith has "survived" this problem, they aren't asking you about it.).

I think the core disconnect here is not realizing that the Qu'ran was provably written **after** the oldest versions of the Gospel and Torah that we have in possession today, the very same that Muhammed is affirming.

We could have this discussion if we had all three with zero timelines as if they appeared all at once with no history, but since we do have the Dead Sea Scrolls and at least 3rd century Gospels that match the current day Bible with no such equivalent for the Qu'ran (and even if we did it still would be 6th/7th century)... I don't know what to tell you.

So let's try to steelman Farid's argument in the form of logical premises.

1) The Quran is inerrant
2) If the Quran is inerrant then any conflict between it and previous scriptures as they exist now are because the current copies of the previous scriptures have been corrupted
3) If the Quran is inerrant and says that the previous scriptures possessed by those Mohammed interacted with were not corrupted then the scriptures at the time of Mohammed were not corrupted
4) If the previous scriptures at the time of Mohammed were not corrupted and the copies that now exist are corrupted then the uncorrupted version of the previous scriptures has been lost.
5) If the previous scriptures have been corrupted and the inerrant Quran seems to say that this is impossible then we have misinterpreted that verse of the Quran.

The argument could plausibly work if you had some independent reason to think that the Quran is inerrant, but Farid - like all the Dawah guys - doesn't seem to have any real argument for the inerrancy of the Quran, they just assume it as a basic axiom of reality.
