Those acts of kindness can save people emotionally and physically

I used to work in a Walmart deli in salt lake city. At the end of the day they would weight all the shit in the "hot case" and then throw it away. I grew up severely poor and was just beginning my journey as a single mom of 2 boys. Well, after a while i caught on that all that food that was wasted wasn't counted for, dollar wise. It meant nothing. And at the cash register they didn't seem to give a shit about the money when it came to piece matching. So, long story short, i absolutely gave free food to homeless people, majorly discounted groceries to anyone that came through my line. Eff them! I never once had someone take advantage of it. Because if you're in need, you're genuinely grateful. And i was happy to do it! If a company can tolerate over a million dollars several times a year in theft like it's nothing, you can help your fellow man. No one ever told me i couldn't do it. There was no policy against it. I help my people first.

I had a manager who had one foot out the door, and he used every quarterly check in as an excuse to give raises to everyone on his team. My pay went up $6/hr the year I worked with him. He's since retired and moved away, but man I'm grateful to him every day.

When my husband and I first started living together many years ago, we both worked at Mervyn's (closed now) and we would give folks our discount all the time because we were both treated so poorly by the company. He ended up getting fired for it after giving his discount to a mom buying shoes for her kids. No regrets! He still says it was worth it all these years later.

I used to teach for a tutoring center that 1) shorted everyone's paychecks on the regular and 2) made outrageous demands, like teaching SAT prep to 11-year-olds because "no one else is using this curriculum we bought".

So I'd do things like rewarding homework completion with candy on random days (when I couldn't get away with skipping homework entirely), making all my grammar demonstration sentences about random anime characters chosen by the students, and starting my Shakespeare unit by taking students out into the parking lot to learn to project their voices like an Elizabethan actor. (You haven't lived until you've waved a foam sword at the head of an army of middle-schoolers who are all bellowing, "ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH!" Especially when you can get passing drivers to honk.) Everyone in management hated it, but the kids all mysteriously got excellent grades in English class at school, and several started bugging their parents to take them to the local free Shakespeare performances.

I proudly identify as chaotic good.

I do this. I work in a body shop doing insurance work. I constantly go above and beyond what I'm being paid to do. If a headlight I take out is old and foggy, I buff it out for them. If doors shut badly, even if they aren't part of the accident, I realign them. Stuff like that makes me sleep better at night. Insurance companies can go sit on it.

Domino's encourages this. I found a guy in a hospital parking lot while delivering. He had two small kids with him and it was 11pm, his wife was in labor. I returned with free pizza and candy for him and his kids.

I swear to god someone did this for me the other day.

Grocery checkout guy was not talkative or overly friendly. I am 7 months pregnant and I had my 1 year old in the cart. I was buying a few fruits, veggies, some bread. as well as three birthday balloons (obviously for the baby) which were $10 each. They were tied to my cart, I mentioned them to him. He was watching the baby shake them around.

He didn't charge me for them. I got him to smile and kinda laugh (I accidentally talked to him in the same voice I was using for my baby lmao) it was funny. But my bill was $32. Definitely didn't charge me. Gotta love it. thank you Brian from the Acme 🙏🙏

This was me as a bartender. Every time my boss grabbed my ass I would give free shots to the entire bar behind his back. Sometimes twice 😊

The company I work for has a 'random acts of kindness' account where we can order flowers, chocolates, tin of biscuits etc to be sent to a customer if we think they've had a rough time or need some extra cheering up. They literally call it the 'Random Acts of Kindness' account

Who knew kindness could be weaponized! 😊

When I was in high school, one of the waiters at a restaurant I really liked gave me a free slice of cake while I was studying. I still remember that cake eight years later. One small act of kindness can stay with a person forever.

Reminds me of the Dunkin’ worker who always gives me way more than I order.

Last time I went in there on my break, I asked for one donut, I paid for one donut, and then she gave me two donuts and 9 munchkins. She’s the best.

This reminds me of the scene from the Incredibles where Bob gives an old woman the exact directions to sort a claim out so she doesn't have to go through the hell of the company's bureaucracy and I am all for it

I am fully endorsing the idea of becoming a chaotic good character at work

I hated throwing away so much food at Dunkin. literally told people to come back at close and gave them free dozens all night.

This was me working at Starbucks, they treated me like shit as an employee, so I just started forgetting booking the extra shots and a few times when a card was declined for a drink I went "it's fine, have a nice day" 😆

Lol i literally did this when I was leaving retail ! 😂 As a disabled pregnant woman at the time, the staff there were so horrible and used to verbally abuse me coz of my disability and use their power to make my pain worse by forcing me to do activities I told them I can't because of my disability, and then eventually the stress there caused me to miscarry, so i basically just started giving a load of store products away for free and being overly kind to customers coz I didn't care anymore coz I was leaving that hell hole. Lol x

I once worked at a parking ticket office. I cleared every ticket I had in my basket on my last day and I felt fantastic lol

This explains what happened to me at the grocery store.

I was using self check out and the lady overseeing the area walked around to each of us and said "grab whatever you want, this one's free." Mostly people added a candy bar or soda. Sure enough she zeroed us out and we got free groceries.

I asked her why and she just shrugged and said "I can, so why not."
