Lepocinclis acus (Euglenozoa)

Показать описание
Phylum: Euglenozoa. _Lepocinclis acus_ (O.F.Müller) B.Marin & Melkonian 2003.
_Lepocinclis acus_ is a species of freshwater unicellular algae belonging to the class Euglenida, which are commonly found in freshwater lakes and streams. They have a shape resembling a long needle or rod, which is where their name "acus" comes from, derived from the Latin word for "needle". _Lepocinclis_ was first described in the 19th century by Perty (1849), but its diagnostic description was revised at the beginning of the 21st century when five species were transferred from _Euglena_ to _Lepocinclis_ based on molecular data. Currently, Lepocinclis is classified within the family Phacaceae. All members of this family have numerous disc-shaped chloroplasts embedded in their cell walls, without pyrenoids.
A water sample was taken from the shore of Srednerogatsky Pond. The air temperature was 14°C (57.2 °F). The sample was stored at room temperature and observed 10 days after collection.
