Test Cone Platform - PLA vs PETG vs ABS - Cones & Z Axis Stiffness

In this video, I cover what the Test Cone Platform is and how it works. I then investigate how PLA, PETG & ABS perform both as speaker cones and how stiff they act over the Z axis due to layer adhesion creating potential issues.

By becoming a supporter you will get access to FD51-4PE, unique speaker cabinets, and behind the scenes in depth look into how these are created, along with access to influencing the next 3D printed speaker drivers coming!

Feel free to come follow me along. I generally try to get back to everyone, and community feedback is essential in helping me develop better content for people to learn from and use to your own projects.

Thanks for watching. This is all rather new to me, so don't hesitate to give tips and advice. Happy to hear from you. :)

Thank you, I really appreciate it!. the time it takes to document and make a video is a lot.

You should try regular old PA6 nylon. Its light for a plastic, strong while thin, and sticks to itself in a water tight fashion in most instances. Great work !

I think you should try a commercial cone in your own test rig. Could you attach your own VC to a commercial cone? This will give a reference.

That's great info. I'm really digging where you're going with this, but it's a lot of info to take in in one 13min video. Your visuals are pretty strong, but it seems like the delivery may need a little more pep. Please don't get me wrong...I loved the video overall, and I'm definitely sub'ed with the bell on.

I found your channel last week while going down YouTube's 3D printing rabbit hole. I've been casually curious about speaker drivers and amps for a long time, so it was a really nice surprise to find your content.

Have you considered high temp, heat treated PLA? Stiffness increases greatly IIRC.

hi, well done the research, this must be published along scientific papers.

I suppose the diameter of the nozzle and wall thickness is important too. if you could use a 0.1mm nozzle and make a PLA sandwich cone you could test different sandwich cores as hexagon, V, sinusoidal etc, and core thickness too
