Jamming the filter in was the hardest part - took about 10 min of maneuvering. It really needed replacing. No kidding, right, after 6 yrs!!! Thanks for this video.

Hardest part is getting the plastic cover back on after jamming (and nearly destroying) new filter into slot. Great design Ford!

Thank you Ford engineers for making the insertion of a new filter almost impossible for a human being with normal anatomy. I struggled for about 45 mins and had to mangle the filter so much it is unclear if the filter seated properly when I finally got the filter inserted to work.

Thanks for your help, the old filter was black. But a poor design. I used nylon zip ties to scrunch the filter so it would fit, then cut off the zip ties and pulled them out. The filter expanded into its slot. Thanks for the video.

Great instructions but a stupid design. I love Ford but they really could have made it easier, just like on my 19 explorer. That was horrible. Thank you all, it kind of helped...lol...

While I agree replacement is a bit of a challenge, I disagree with many here who are complaining. I worked for several years in engineering design. Engaged in more meetings than I care to remember, and I can tell you this... any final product (like the Escape) is a result of many, many compromises.
Ford packed a whole lot of technology into a small space for a reasonable price.
After the Ford Dealership (where I have my Escape serviced) wanted $65 to replace it I purchased a filter (from Filterheads) for a fraction of that. Watched their video and replaced mine in just under a half hour. No big deal. If you have not done it yet, but are planning to... getting the new filter into the slot is not the problem. Getting it up into position is. I placed 4 rubber bands on it (2 in the center and 1 each holding down the top and bottom of the sides (so they appear as a kind of fan). That allowed me to easily slip it up into place and partially insert it into the slot. Then I snipped and remove the rubber bands. The rest is history.

A Philips screw would have made too much sense to Ford. It’s all about building the subassembly quickly, not for someone later to have to service with common tools.

Ridiculous setup for where they put it. Why not a panel behind the main open section of the glove box, like most of the auto world does. Big FAIL for Ford on this. It was so easy on my 2009 Prius and my 2006 Sonata that I would check it probably every quarter, sometimes just clean & vacuum, sometimes replace.
