Goof Troop (SNES) Playthrough

A playthrough of Capcom's 1993 license-based action-puzzle game for the Super Nintendo, Goof Troop.

Played through as Goofy in single-player mode.

Was there ever a Disney TV show that managed to be more quintessentially 90s than Goof Troop? I was in the fifth grade when this attitude-laden take on Goofy showed up on the Disney Channel, and I watched it every day after school. I loved it, so it was pretty exciting news when Capcom announced a video game adaptation of Goof Troop.

Goof Troop begins with Goofy and his son Max going on a fishing trip when they see their neighbors, Pete and his son PJ, being kidnapped by pirates. Being the nice guys that they are, Goofy and Max follow them to the pirates' island in order to stage a rescue.

The game is a lot of fun playing single player, but it is the fantastic two player co-op mode that elevates this cart above the average SNES game. It's not a long or difficult game by any means, but it is one that's fun to play again and again.

That, and it has a really charming presentation. The sprites are cute and cleanly drawn, and the soundtrack is fantastic. The instrument quality is way up there for a SNES game, and the original tunes are some of the best that you'll hear from a Capcom SNES game.

(But where's the theme song from the show?)

I remember this one rating well in Nintendo Power and the screenshots totally sold me on the game. After renting it God knows how many times from the local Hollywood Video, my parents finally relented and bought a copy for my sister and I. We played obsessively until we could plow our way through without using any continues.

It's not talked about nearly as much as the Disney games Capcom made for the NES, but in my mind, Goof Troop sits right on par with classics like Chip & Dale and DuckTales.

Oh, and it's one of the earliest Capcom games that Shinji Mikami worked on. You know, before he became famous with Resident Evil. Don't worry: nobody in Goof Troop becomes a sandwich.

Goof Troop is a ridiculously fun little action-puzzler that lives up to the quality of Capcom's NES Disney games.

Goof Troop was such an amazing cartoon back in the day. This game certainly does it justice. Capcom made so many gems on the SNES.

One of the greatest SNES games. Such puzzle fun for young and old kids.

You know, playing this game with someone makes it a wholesome story of a father and son facing the odds together and having each other’s backs as they save the day. But playing it solo, it’s just Goofy being a Liam Neeson badass using his particular set of skills to single-handedly combat an army of pirates to rescue his neighbors.

I like how you can tell how this game helped lay the groundwork for Resident Evil in a way with the heavy emphasis on item management.

I loved playing this with my cousins growing up. It's such a short, fun romp that we'll still pick it up for a run even now.

I rented this game so much as a kid. Co-oped it with friends. Beat it alone. Everything about it is magical and perfect.

Wish it had more levels!

I used to play this every single day, all day, after school as a kid. What a fantastic game, just enjoying watching you go through each room- almost like it opens up a memory box for myself! Great content.

Oh not this one is a old favorite me and my cousins and brother would have so much fun playing this. This game is perhaps my favorite of the Disney capcom collaborations

Designed by the guy who would go on to direct Resident Evil, God Hand, Vanquish and The Evil Within.

Man, what a game! It was so much fun playing it back in the day; and that catchy soundtrack, always loved it, even sometimes I hum or whistle it, particularly the stage 4 track: "Lose my way". There are a few things I did not remember, like navigating those dark rooms, the bouncing boulders, solving the puzzle while avoiding the fireballs, the red pirates that threw the stuff back at you lol!
Last time I played this was perhaps around 2004, sadly I don't have the patience I had as a kid and could not finish it again.
Thanks for bringing back those lovely memories.

20:13 That is straight-up a room in a dungeon from a Link to The Past. Heck, the aesthetic of the entirety of Level 3 is for that matter.
