Button holes are so easy. Depends on the size of the buttons but you just skip say two stitches and chain 2. Then make one or 2 more passes with s/c. I bet there are a lot of videos on it as it is hard to explain.

Hi Ann…..Cardigans don’t always have buttons if you don’t want to put them on.
But you just chain 2 or 3 (depending on button size) instead of going into those stitches…..and when you come back around you just stitch into those chains which will reinforce the button hole. Hope this helps!
