I love how Joey uses his left hand not just for comping but for melody as well. Many times in his solos his left hand plays lines that fit and compliment his right hand. The level of playing at this age is truly remarkable. Then again, who gives a shit how old he is, just listen and enjoy.

I was so fortunate to see Joey in a performance at the San Francisco Jazz Center a couple of years ago. :-)

Master Joey was only 12 years old when he recorded this video. There are people who have been playing long before he was born and can not come close to the perfection he shows on the black and white. Lets face it fellow musicians, this is truly a gift from God. Master Joey, play on, play on, play on.

What the...?  The more I listen to this kid the more I'm absolutely blown away!  Something crazy is going on inside his young brain that's going to amaze the rest of us for years to come...

The boy shows not only tremendous wisdom beyond his years in the music but extraordinary wisdom in his person. Gives 'brilliance' a whole new connotation.

Wow... Some fine playing by these young musicians...the jazz future is in good hands! Also have to think that hearing a 12 years old play so maturely makes one wonder if there is such a thing as reincarnation.

The more I hear this young man play, the more amazed I am!!  I don't think he knows how great he really is, which is great.  He is humble to a fault.  I know for a minute he was under the guidance of Cyrus Chestnut, one of the greats.  Oscar Peterson would be raving over this young man!!

fantastic! @3:40 I like how Joey is doing the salsa with his shoulders - he has a lot of feeling for this music.
also - I like how the sax player answers Joey's little trill around the 8:45 or so

I keep watching this kid, video after video, and I still can't quite believe what I'm seeing. What a fucking talent! It reminds me of when I first heard Jackie Evancho sing as a young kid. The image of what I'm witnessing doesn't quite fit together in my mind with the sound I'm experiencing. And yet, there it is: reality. Totally mind-blowing. Cheers!

Joey is clearly and old soul or just someone who's brain works at a level that most of us mortals can't comprehend.

Excellent example of natural genius at work, how to build a piano solo: Joey starts sparsely, building each chorus adding texture, dynamically growing into creative techniques in his LH too! It's hard not to focus on the fact that Joey Alexander is only about 11 (I'm guessing) and hearing the maturity of his ideas simultaneously. He unassumingly just "feels the music" and plays!
