One of the most famous works that everyone thinks was written by Bach - but wasn't. Minuet in G. Actually written by Christian Petzold, it was compiled together with other works in the well known 'Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach' by Bach and his wife Anna Magdalena. In the book, no composer to the work was given so for hundreds of years the world thought this was a composition by Bach himself. In the 1970s however, it was discovered that this is not the case. Enjoy ♥

Everybody's talking about how they played this song at a recital when they were nine.... I'm 25 and learning this song now, so don't feel bad, those of you who started late

31 years old and just learnt the first phase of this. You're never too old to start learning piano. 😊 Just started playing 2 months ago because I really wanted to be able to play Moonlight Sonata first movement. I've learnt like the first 40 seconds but I am maybe a little bit out of my depth with that so trying to master some simpler pieces and improve technique before I carry on with that. I'll get there though. Been practising every day for at least an hour.

Have you ever played this piece? If so, how old were you when you learnt it?

I guess people who say that this is very easy for a beginner have forgotten how it is to be a beginner piano player

This was the very first piece that I learned. I learned playing by ear when I was like 10. We didn’t have money to pay for consistent proper piano lessons. Sometimes, I would attend free classes at church during summer. My mom saved up and bought a casio keyboards for my graduation. She knew I really loved playing. I would practice playing this every single day. Life went on and I got preoccupied with school, uni, then work. I still can’t play “properly” but I can still play the ones that I learned many years ago - this one, pathetique, canon, etc.

I think that I was able to achieve my dreams and helped my family get out of poverty. Listening to this piece, I feel nostalgic as I remember our financial struggles and my parents trying their best to provide. It’s not a sad nostalgia but a delightful one, like the melody of this piece.

Minuet in G was one of the first ever songs I played in the piano. Because of that, it has always been one of my favorite pieces.

I love this song - it was one of the first piano songs I ever learned after not playing for years. It made me fall in love with the piano and i remember being so proud of myself after learning it and bothering everyone in the house 24/7 with the song. To beginners out there learning piano - its going to get hard at times but please don’t give up because music really is a gift. You’re doing amazing and keep at it, it’s going to be so worth it

For the ones who are desperate, for the ones who truly love... The existence of this piece could fill the love of the heart. I truly loved this piece when I was a child, and it was heartfelt, everlastingly forever, never left.

In the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in 2020, I heard my son’s piano teacher playing this song to him through Zoom. It’s like I found a childhood friend. I started learning how to play this song. This is my first classic music. I was 47 and am still learning. I now can play 7 classic piano songs. It’s truly never too late to start this journey.😂

20 years later I appreciate the beauty of this piece, but to 10 year old me taking piano lessons, bane of my existence.

This piece contains so many memories, I remember practicing this with my dad after my piano lesson when I was 5. A few months later I played it at my first recital. I still remember, I was shaking I was so nervous. My mum had dressed me up in a suit and tie that barely fit me. Good times
