Disc Golf | Push Putt vs. Spin Putt with Eric McCabe

Thanks for showing grip, I’m a horrible putter. Learned to putt using a Rhyno on some bad advise from a big box sporting goods store sales person. After 10 years I realized I needed to start over on putting. I was trying to spin putt or hyzer spike the disc while using a push putt grip. So much to unlearn and start over. Thanks Dynamic Discs, Eric McCabe, and your media team for teaching us and growing the sport.

Same here in Boise, almost always some wind. I played DG starting in late 70’s then I just got back into it after a 15 year break. I always spin putted and after dusting off the discs again and after watching countless videos I tried push putting but with inconsistent results. I went back to focusing on spin putting and it makes sense for me, using similar grip and release as drive and mid range play, especially in the wind.

I made a device to measure the RPM of a putter and found that as I got further from the basket I added more spin with each release. Even though every successful throw was in a consistent RPM range for each distance. 21' ->200RPM, 24'->244RPM, 27'->310RPM, 30'->355RPM ... Am I a spin putter or loft putter?

I spin and push but it is a slow spin with push so a spiush is what it is more push less spin but adding more spin further out I go to keep the push part the same. Left non dominate hand goes to disc side guide the disc in as a rail guide on the bottom wing. Then I line up with a traditional darts stance front foot facing the basket pole and throw. I have to do both as I do not putt hard enough to do one or the other type of putt and the hand thing to keep the disc flying stright up and down to not release too high.

Funny how McCabe here is extolling the virtues of spin putting, & on Scott Stokely's putting vid he is basically saying push putting is the only way to I think it just depends on what works for each
