Fun Fact: Neither Hank Pym nor Scott Lang made their first appearance as Ant-Man, instead both first appeared as civilians.

They got rid of thought bubbles?! What were they thinking?!
We don't know because there are no thought bubbles!!

"If characters can come back from the dead then so can thought balloons" was a great line!

"Every note transporting to a nightmare realm of the mind!"
A strange, but not unfair, description of jazz.

I hadn't heard about this, but I will definitely seek it out -- looks like a lot of fun! My personal favorite era of Ant-Man is the brief run in "Marvel Feature" in the early '70s -- Hank and Jan get stuck at insect-size and have to survive in the wilderness against various natural predators and the occasional mad scientist. Jan turns into a wasp-monster at one point, it's pretty wild.

I think the thing about Hank Pym is, he wasn't really defined by The Slap until The Ultimates. As of the new millennium, he and Jan were basically back together, and he was the leader of the Avengers in their terrible, short-lived cartoon. Not someone defined by his toxi baggage. But Mark Millar's take on the Avengers characters hyperfocused on the most unsavory interpretations, and at the same time Chuck Austen was writing the 616 Avengers, Hank Pym: Wife Beater went from a unpleasant chapter comics wanted to put behind them, to one of the biggest memes in comic book lore. Ultimately, it makes me very ambivalent, because it wasn't a case of domestic abuse being taken seriously in good faith, but a bunch of edgleords having a yuk.

Ant-Man was the 6th shrinking super- hero. The first was Doll Man from Quality Comics, followed by Doll Girl. Then there was Tinyman from MF Publications. Next came Minimidget the miniature man from Centaur Comics, and then the Atom from DC.
Hank was late to the game.

On the Hank backhand, I always found it very... weird that it became a defining trait for him when Reed did the same thing to Sur, but it's never brought up.

17:09 Confirmed - ordinary spiders understand the concept of what a hat is, but think tiny men are just big flies.

There's something terribly wrong about that somehow. What other items of apparel are part of their lexicon? Mittens? Shoes? Do they grasp the idea of pants? Sweaters? The mind boggles.

The story of how Ant-Man was created that I heard years ago was a little different. That because "The Man Inside the Ant Hill" story was so popular with readers, Marvel's publisher, Martin Goodman, wanted it to become an ongoing series. So he charged Stan Lee with creating a series with Hank Pym as the main character.

I always felt that the nature of Ant-Man was quite different from the other Stan Lee/Jack Kirby creations of the same time. And the odd origin of the series would explain it.

This is a really cool way to pay tribute to all the Ant-Men and I'm really glad it happened. I feel Ant-Man in comics is talked about the same way I think the movie version is were people hear the name Ant-Man and want to think and call them lame only for them to actaully be one of the coolest parts of the Marvel Universe every time.

"Die in jail." It's not very often that I actually burst out laughing when I 'lol', but this bit was hilarious.

Glad you had the guts to show Hanks darkest point. It's what redeemed Pym for me.

The biggest problem with Eric, was that he had very few redeeming qualities, which I get was the joke (his series is literally called the irredeemable Antman), but it did make him endearing enough to stay.

Damn, that intro panel. Someone really wanted Hank Pym tied up. 😍
