For anyone who finds themselves in Steve-O’s predicament, apparently applying salt to the leeches causes them to detach and release so you can pick them off. However, apparently, they also may release bacteria or some toxin as they do that. The moral of the story: Always wait for Betty to finish explaining her proposal before proceeding.

Actually, there is a modern medical use for leeches. After reattaching a severed finger or toe, a leech applied to the appendage will promote blood flow. Icky, but effective.
