it's so obvious they've never had a mature conversation about what they want for the future and have just been coasting for SIX YEARS. She's selfish, unconsciously or consciously assuming that he desires the same life path as her. He's a coward, because he KNOWS what he wants but doesn't want the tough consequences sitting down and talking will bring, even if it's better for both of them long term.
