I recently visited the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where I saw the retired Space Shuttle Atlantis on display. Over 26 years, this orbital vehicle embarked on 33 missions, spending close to a year above Earth's atmosphere, before it was retired in 2011 to coincide with the end of the Space Shuttle Programme.

I watched Atlantis go up on its last flight with STS-135 back in 2011. It was my first and currently only rocket launch I've attended. I was only 9 then but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

July 21st was the day STS-135 landed and the space shuttle program officially ended. Atlantis was that final orbiter.
Funnily enough, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon for the first time on July 21st as well.
And during Atlantis’s last two flights, the X-37 Bs were taking their first flights respectively.
