Gretzky 894 in 1487 games, Ovi 895 goals in ... 1487 games.

Also the comment of "only 6th fastest to 400 goals" look at the era all the players above him played in and the goaltending they faced. Ovechkin has been the best goal scorer of all time practically since his rookie year. Now he has the record to prove it.

I don't think Ilya Sorokin is too choked about giving up this one lol

Dear Alex Ovechkin,

I can hardly find the right words to describe what this moment means to so many of us—your fans, your teammates, and anyone who has ever followed your incredible journey. Breaking the all-time goal-scoring record is no small feat. It’s not just a number—it’s a testament to everything you’ve given to the game of hockey, and it represents the passion, the grit, and the perseverance that you’ve poured into every single shift, game after game, year after year.

You’ve made us believe in the impossible. You’ve shown us that greatness isn’t just about records or numbers—it’s about consistency, heart, and a relentless drive to push beyond every challenge. The way you’ve approached the game, with an unyielding spirit and a fire that’s never gone out, is something that will inspire generations to come.

I remember watching you, back when you were that young Russian phenom, and I can’t help but feel a sense of awe at how far you’ve come. From that first powerful goal to the milestone we now celebrate, every moment has been nothing short of magical. You didn’t just break a record—you redefined what it means to be an athlete. Your shot, your power, your ability to turn a game on its head in an instant, will forever be etched in the hearts of those who have witnessed your journey.

And even though you’ve reached the pinnacle, what stands out most to me isn’t just the goals or the records—it’s the love you’ve shown for the game. You’ve always played with a smile, a fire, and a deep respect for the sport and its fans. That humility, paired with the immense talent you possess, has made you not only one of the best to ever do it but also one of the most respected.

I hope you take a moment to truly reflect on what you’ve accomplished. This achievement isn’t just about you—it’s about everyone who has ever believed in you, supported you, and cheered for you. It’s a testament to the sacrifices, the long hours, the struggles, and the victories—both big and small—that you’ve experienced along the way.

Thank you, Alex. Thank you for giving us a front-row seat to history. Thank you for reminding us all that with hard work and unwavering belief, dreams can come true.

Congratulations on this monumental achievement, and I can’t wait to see where you go next.

With deepest admiration,

I was born in 2006 and growing up as a nhl fan. Congrats to ovechkin for becoming the all time goal leader for 895 goals.

I think that this more than enough of a reason to stop mid game for a ceremony, I'm glad players are still pushing the league forward and I am exited to see what player (If any) will keep pushing it forward.

Micheal Pezzeta is only 889 goals away from the record, beware !

Big fan of ovi here! I didn't think ovi would beat the record 5 years ago, I always told my freinds that he would have to Jager it to do it. Not decline, stay healthy. It's really hard to do in the NHL, like look at Stamokes. In his prime we all thought he had the potential, but his injuries and decline in his game, clearly he didn't. Ovi also adapted instead of skating at full speed up the ice and just ripping it. He didn't have the energy to do that and just clapped one-timers. Even Crosby one of the best all time, had big injuries who missed lots of games. The list goes on and on with greats, and big goal scorers. The talk for Mathews beating it, is only because Ovechkin did it. He showed it was possible. If Ovechkin didn't exist, nobody would even talk about Mathews beating jt

It'd be such a storybook ending if he won the cup and retired

Fun fact: that was also the first goal Ovi ever scored on Sorokin

Given the years between Howe and Gretzky—31 years—and Gretzky and Ovi, also 31 years, I guess we’re looking at 2056.

Pretty fitting that it's a rocket on the power play.

Crazy thing about Ovi longevity is that he plays a physical game, esp. earlier in his career.
