Hey y'all... so the story behind this tune. I was dating this girl, started out great, thought I was ready to change my whole life up for her. I'm not the most stable guy, I tour a lot, I am all over the place, I have an artists mind and a childs heart, i think that those parts of me are what attract women into my life, and also the parts that drive them crazy and, on my end at least, mess up the relationship.
She always wanted me to write a song for her. She also always talked about how Black Eyed Susans were her favorite flower. I lived in Maryland, where, coincidentally, the black eyed susan is the state flower. All that was kind of odd. At any rate, I told her I was gonna write a song for her someday called 'Black Eyed Susan' ... and eventually I did. This is it. Sadly, what inspired it wasn't our union, but our breakup.
She never got to hear it.
I hope she's doing well.. wherever life took her.
