The more you listen to this gem, the better it gets. My first audition was jaw-dropping. Pure magic.

He was of course playing this one on a grand old cathedral pipe organ and then mixes in the synth at the big portion of the piece. This one gives me chills. There is nothing as powerful musically to me as a pipe organ. Magnificent.

When I was 12, in 1979, I got my first stereo record player all of my own, in my bedroom. This was the first track I played on it, full blast. No music has ever sounded so incredible.

This was the song that introduced me to Wakeman.
I have since met him and still get Christmas cards each year.

I was hooked with his solo works from my 1st exposure in 1975.

Yes is at it's greatest when he's at the helm of the keyboards.

He's really funny too.

I can’t recommend enough that after this album you should watch the Wakeman solo from Yessongs. It’s a medley from this album and you do see and hear a good portion of this song live. Really wonderful!

Go from this album to Rick's "The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Nights of the Round Table."

I saw Rick play this live with Yes. He played the moog part of Jane Seymour after playing the Alleluia chorus from Messiah on the mellotron - which was a surprise for me, because I thought there was a choir on the stage somewhere. Rick was quite the showman with his glittering gown, and the Steinway and keyboards all stacked up around him.

So Justin, when you finish this album, I hope you check out Rick's live performance from 1972, that's also on the live album YesSongs. His performance of his Excerpts from The Six Wives of Henry VIII is something that you'll definitely want to see.

Wakeman plays the pipe organ so extremely well and this song really shines. Actually Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman were good friends and Keith was on some of Rick's radio shows. They wanted to record some music together but their managers would not allow it to our great and eternal loss.

This album always leaves me feeling like I lost my head! Cathedral organs are the titanic lord of musical instruments, and Wakeman, the chancellor pulling the Kings strings. Peace & Love, stay warm and Happy Holidays!

Best tracks on Three Wives: Catherine Howard, Catherine Parr and Jane Seymour. This was one those albums that solidified my love of keyboards and synthesizers early in my record-collecting days in high school and college, along with the works of ELP and Tangerine Dream. Oh, and Isao Tomita, too, from whom I developed a greater appreciation of classical music.

One of the best tracks from this album (which is full of great tracks). On a side note, there’s a traditional ballad called The Death of Queen Jane, ostensibly about Jane Seymour (although in the song she dies having a cesarean, whereas in real life she gave birth naturally but died several days later). It’s a beautiful and tragic song and has been recorded by many people, including Joan Baez, Loreena McKennitt, Karine Polwart and 10, 000 Maniacs. Well worth checking out.

Hi Justin. Dave from London, Late In The Evening. I was a bit rude about Catherine Howard, your last Rick reaction, but I can't resist this church organ sound, and his phenomenal playing. I know St Giles church - it's right next to the Barbican Centre here in London where I've been to many rock and classical concerts. I've also love a good organ recital in a church or cathedral, hearing barnstormers like Widor's Toccata.
P.S. my song ref Late In The Evening is by Paul Simon.

This just screams Toccata and Fugue in D minor for organ.

I know I mentioned this before but seriously you gotta listen to Rick's solo on Yessongs.
(While you're there, listen to the entire live album..Yes is at it's strongest) 😀

I've been waiting for you to get to this one. I must admit, I was a Little reserved since I've heard you mention overpowering organs and this was basically an organ solo. This being the most classical sounding track makes it work perfectly. It is one of my favorite Wakeman tracks and I play it quite loud over my vintage Akai SW-157 speakers. A sonic experience that is felt as well as heard. Rick is a true master. I'm glad enjoyed it. I first bought this album a year or two after its release. I bought his next 6 lp's as they came out and was happy with all of them.
