COVID-19 case numbers in Russia are surging in a 4th infection wave. 973 people died on Tuesday - that's Russia's highest official daily death toll since the start of the pandemic.

The number of deaths in the country has been high since the summer. But the curve has risen sharply in the last few weeks, with the delta variant and vaccine hesitancy driving the spread. DW's Moscow correspondent Juri Rescheto has more on how serious the situation in Russia now is with COVID-19.

Doctors are just now beginning to study the impacts of long covid.
Having covid even if you get better may leave you with long term side effects.
Brain fog, heart issues, poor ability to breathe, long term fatigue and other issues are seen in people that had mild cases of covid.

I follow someone from Russia on Instagram. It's as if there's no Covid in Russia; nobody's wearing mask, party party party and music concerts every weekend, pubs and all. 🤔

I don't understand why Russia has such a low vaccination rate. Your Sputnik V vaccine is good, has high effectiveness, and you've exported hundreds of millions of doses around the world to countries who are glad to vaccinate their citizens. Please look after yourself and get vaccinated.

Dang 30%? And I thought American distrust of its government was high.

Russia has less than 30 percent of the country vaccinated and stubbornly won't put necessary restrictions in place. They have brought this on themselves

Why do they show ICU in a hospital in Moscow? Show what is going on in regions. No proper equipment at all.

Nobody is wearing a mask, neither the interviewer or the interviewees. I’m not surprised that this happened.

So in one doubling period they will be at 125% capacity and that would be anywhere from 2 to 11 days. Remember Alberta in Canada is at 174% capacity. What happens when you go over capacity is spaces and beds not normally used to care for these patients would be used and each patient receives less care and monitoring. Even before COVID this happens, patients have used janitor closets repurposed as a bathroom and tv rooms for their beds quite often. 100% capacity is not a firm limit and in my opinion once care cannot be given for other purposes (canceling elective procedures), you're way over capacity and once you're over capacity, it's too late to avoid going over capacity by public health measures. Public Health measures need to start even before reaching 10% capacity which would be 160% in four doubling periods (as little as a month) if the spread remains exponential.

I wonder how it correlates with the recent event of voting

That is not a top priority story for RT unless this catastrophe is happening in the UK or the USA. RT is busy talking about a so-called sudden crash of the US dollar and how Russia and China will replace the dollar.

I would like to know why the journalist doesn't wear a mask while interviewing the Russian man?
Bad example!
