Amazon Valve Cover for N54 BMW's (Install + Review!)

Today, we're replacing the old leaking valve cover on my N54-powered BMW with one that I purchased from Amazon for right at $100! That's a fraction of the cost of buying one new from BMW, so we're going to put this thing to the test and see if it holds up to the job.

Great job Chris. And the Victor Reinz gaskets are great indeed. Better than the Elring btw. Wow, already on index 12 injectors. You're a lucky one. Nowadays that's $3000!!!! Have a great weekend. Dutch regards, Nico.

I dont know how you feel about spark plugs, but I personally use the NGK one step colder and put the gap at .20 . You can do .22 like oem but personally it has a very slight difference in idle and power in my opinion.

I'd be hand starting those new plugs!

I drive a E39 engine still runs strong and smooth idle for sparkplugs I use E3 I find when I drive long distance and I cruise it at 85 + mph the E3 sparkplugs give me a stronger spark at higher rpm giving me a decent gas mileage.

Doesn't look like much room for a turbo side intake set up. I was gonna see if you wanted the pipes and elbows I was going to use on my 335 but I really soo no way to fit two air filters over there

My experience, the cover is cheaper plastic and will warp over time... And leak no matter what... So don't throw out the oem!

I was just on max peedings websight... searched valve covers, steering racks, ccv kits, lever sensors, much bmw part specific stuff... they have a m5x turbo manifold for 92$

I bought an oil filter housing gasket from Amazon 3 years ago. Last month, noticed an oil smell and when I stopped the car, I noticed a lot of oil over the passenger/right side of the car. I had already done the valve cover gasket so I couldn't figure out what the problem was. There was no leak from the oil filter housing gasket.

I was perplexed at first but eventually it dawned on me what had happened. The oil was from the expansion tank. The oil filter housing gasket had failed internally (hence no leak from there) allowing high pressure oil to enter the coolant system. Since there wasn't enough space, the mixture of coolant and oil was forced out the expansion tank cap.

When took the oil filter housing, I noticed the 3 year old gasket was gummy between the oil and coolant side but relatively normal around the edges. Worse part was the aluminum head had pitting where the gasket had turned gummy but nowhere else-- it was pristine the first time I replaced the gasket.

I bought the Amazon gasket thinking, "what could go wrong with a gasket?" Now I know. I will never skimp on a gasket again.
TL;DR Gasket chemistry can be unforgiving to an aluminum head. Caveat emptor.

What kind of superglue did you use and where did you apply the glue? I’m having a hard time keeping my gasket on as I put o the cover.

Bro this kid using super glue jejeje, I’ve never seen this before, no torque pattern on the valve cover or torque, and spark plugs with an electrical tool and no torque this kid is wild jejeje guys there is better tutorials out there don’t do this, also don’t complain later when your pushing the car and u crack that hot trash cover with the heat, I think he spent more money on the gasket that the actual cover jejejeje

Was literally about to buy this but couldn't decide if it was worth it being there's an integrated PCV valve that I wanted to make sure worked properly but lmk if everything is running good and if it fixed the issue so I can order it and get my 335i on the road again

I bought one off Amazon $100.. no not worth it. Absolute shit. N54. Nothing lined up lol. Gasket was super hard.

I always go oem genuine with bme valve covers… but I would consider the Elring valve cover my buddy bought one and it looked identical (350) compared to 529 for genuine
