INFLUENCE WITHOUT AUTHORITY (For product managers!)
Показать описание
"Influence without authority" is a very popularly talked about part of being a PM! In fact, I heard about this so much prior to getting into product that I had a very surprising experience once I actually started! I'll be sharing some of my experience with influence, hot takes, and learnings from the field in this video so you can come in prepared.
As a Product Manager, you are working within a discipline that exists at the intersection of many other functions (design, engineering, analytics, marketing, finance, etc), but rarely have these disciplines directly reporting to you. Being able to influence all these simultaneously is not an easy task, but is necessary in order to work together to build amazing products!
Sachin Rekhi describes four groups you will need to influence -
1. Engineers, designers, and testers on your product team.
2. Other product teams to drive integration scenarios. (Which I describe in this video)
3. Other disciplines to leverage shared resources. Eg. Marketing, customer support, etc.
4. The executive team for continued resources and prioritization.
However, as a PM, you will also be granted a lot of space to fulfill your role in defining and determining the requirements. At times, this can feel like a ton of authority! Your team will rely on you to form strong and well-supported points of view about your product, that act as the foundation of your product development.
