An Overview of the Glendalough Exhibition by curator Matthew Seaver

Glendalough is an iconic place in Ireland’s medieval heritage. The stories of the saints lives describe its founder, St Kevin as a holy man who went to a remote place deep in the mountains and returned from solitude to found a monastic city. Preserving the remote sacred nature of the place while promoting its influence through travel to a busy place for healing, burial and redemption is at the heart of its story. Objects were carefully used to create the identity of people who travelled to Glendalough and a recently open exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland tells the fascinating tale of its connections with the wider world.

This online lecture with Matthew Seaver, Assistant Keeper, Irish Antiquities Division, National Museum of Ireland, and curator of the recently opened exhibition, Glendalough: Power, Prayer and Pilgrimage, was pre-recorded and took place as a live event on Wednesday, 3rd March 2021.
