Abortion bans reduce women to breeding stocks– and that’s exactly the point

The proliferation of horror stories involving pregnant women being denied emergency care due to abortion bans highlights the fact that abortion care is inseparable from broader maternal health care. Efforts to stigmatize and criminalize abortion access poses a direct threat to all women who may one day face dangerous pregnancy complications. Studies show that states with abortion restrictions post-Dobbs saw a spike in maternal mortality rates. The respect given to the privacy of male patients– whose health care isn’t policed by the state– only highlights the inferior treatment of women’s health care in this country.
