My dad has a type 98. He found it at an estate sale. The owner had no idea how to take care of it so he gave it to my dad for $20 since it was so badly rusted. Any collector would leave it as it. Not my dad. He put that bitch in the vice and grinded down the rust all the way and sharpened it back up. While almost ruining the value of it, he doesn't care. He always told me "son, you have to realize that the value of a weapon is the user behind it. A weapon is worthless if it sits on a shelf, regardless of the pricetag." Thats why whenever i find/buy an antique, i always just fix it up instead of letting time take its course even more. Its more fun that way. Id rather have a functional and deadly peice of art than one that would fall apart from being so badly damaged

"Well maintained blade". Nope. Thats rust, and thats rust, and thats rust

Oh look, SOME MORE GODDAMN RUST ! ! ! !
There are Japanese katanas in the hands of the right owners that are hundreds of years old that look brand new. That sword, my friend, is less than 100 years old and looks like crap
