That second one is a controlled explosion. No lightning involved. They were deepening the creek, and that was the quickest way to do it.

Fun fact: there was a man who was hit by lightning at least seven non-consecutive times throughout his life, and he survived all of them. His name was Roy Cleveland Sullivan, he worked as a ranger, and it happened so often to him that he carried a bucket of water with him to put out his head because his hair kept catching on fire when he was hit by lightning. People avoided him, thinking he was bad luck.

The second strike was actually a blasting situation for those that don't know.

Yes lightening causes fires all the time especally when you get dry lightening which is when there's lightening but no rain. A lot of bushfires in Australia start from dry lightening.

'Surely it can start a fire with all the trees'. Absolutely. Especially bushfires in areas that don't permit periodic burning off.

Raised in the high desert plains of the Rocky Mountains. Once or twice a year, we would be treated with a truly spectacular lighting storm. I loved it and had no fear of lightening. Moved to the Pacific Northwest and while golfing with my teenage son, had a heavy rain and lightening storm roll in very suddenly. We didn’t hear the siren and were both crouched down in a wet depression when lightening stuck about 50 feet from us. It shocked us both. Painfully, but thankfully not seriously. It struck and split in half the yardage marker sign, as well as unearthed shallowly placed irrigation lines in all directions for about 30 feet from the impact point. I was looking in the direction of the strike when it hit, and I saw chunks of sod blasted into the air, just like you’d expect to see in some war movie, where a grenade was thrown. Now, I get uneasy around lightning storms. Lesson learned.

My hubby got struck by lightning, it did so much damage to his body. His nerves are shot and he now calculates Pain completely different in his body. He had to have surgery a year ago and we have to make sure we tell doctors that he’s been struck by lightning because of it and how his pain tolerance is now. It’s insane how much damage it causes

A car is one the safest places to be when lightning strikes. Only "damage" might be some ringing in the ears and maybe some statics. The car probably get some brurn marks.
same with planes, both on ground and in air. Though some electronics might get wacky ..
