Trump safe after apparent assassination attempt, suspect in custody

An apparent assassination attempt targeted Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday, according to the FBI.

Trump, who was golfing at his West Palm Beach course, was unharmed.

The US Secret Service confirmed that agents opened fire on a gunman near the course's boundary. An AK-47 style rifle with a scope, along with a GoPro camera, was recovered at the scene.

The suspect managed to escape in a black car, but thanks to a witness, authorities quickly tracked down the vehicle. A potential suspect is now in custody.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stated that Trump was on the course at the time, and the gunman had been spotted just a hole ahead.

Trump’s campaign confirmed that the former president is safe following the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
