From Academy Award-winning writer/director Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation," "The Virgin Suicides," "Marie Antoinette"), "Somewhere" is a witty, moving, and empathetic look into the orbit of actor Johnny Marco (played by Stephen Dorff). You have probably seen him in the tabloids; .Johnny is living at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood. He has a Ferrari to drive around in, and a constant stream of girls and pills to stay in with. Comfortably numbed, Johnny drifts along. Then, his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) from his failed marriage arrives unexpectedly at the Chateau. Their encounters encourage Johnny to face up to where he is in life and confront the question that we all must: which path in life will you take. Filmed entirely on location, "Somewhere" reunites the writer/director with "Lost in Translation" editor Sarah Flack and production designer Anne Ross. Stacey Battat ("Broken English") is the costume designer, and Harris Savides ("Elephant") is the director of photography, on "Somewhere."

Everything Sofia does is gold. She finds a humanity in his character that gives me chills.

People daftly complain that this movie is "slow" and doesn't "go anywhere",
poking fun at how it's ironic given the name of the movie is "Somewhere".

I'm pretty sure that's the bloody point. In spite of moving about like a missile -- driving sporty cars, fucking fast women, downing hard drinks -- Johnny is going nowhere. It's also a movie for those in their mid 20s and up, who have seriously asked, more than once, "What the fuck am I doing with my life?" Real life doesn't always go somewhere. Nobody gets a life map, you have to make it up as you go. But once in a while you get lucky enough find yourself in a place, or with a person, that makes you think, "I think I can see it, I think I can see where I want to go." That's the beauty about this film.

Somehow Julian Casablancas singing and this trailer are one of my favorite things together. I've always loved this trailer.I like Sofia Coppola's work and this really shows her now famous aesthetic, good taste in music and scenery that sometimes is mix matched in theory but amazing in execution. The film got some criticism, but I personally loved this movie. Also it showcased the raw talent and raised the now high status of Elle Fanning as a very young actress then more seriously

The slower pace of this is what’s gives it its authenticity. Life in Hollywood isn’t always what TMZ or the media makes it out to be. Partying 24/7 with a big group of friends etc. Being a Hollywood native, I appreciated the real layers throughout the film. People would be amazed at the amount of people throughout this city acting like their living it up but inside, a lonely numb feeling that’s hidden through smiles and the loudness.

Cool flick for sure

This film seems to get a lot of criticism... I loved it! The first time I watched it I thought it was beautiful but a bit slow. I rewatched it today and this time I fully appreciated the long shots and pauses. I hardly ever get attached to films, this one I did. It's so dreamy and relatable and Elle Fanning is gorgeous

If you still have your father in your life, please appreciate every second you have with him. I lost my dad December 21, 2016, and I’ve never been the same. I was only 17.

I love this movie. I used to watch every once in awhile back in 2013 and 2014. Helped me relax.

Now that I have a daughter of my own, this movie holds a special place in my heart.

This film defines cinema. Not that it is the best film ever made nor the worst but every response I've heard or read is different. People love it, people hate it. Its 'boring' and 'minimalistic'. Its 'beautiful' and 'moving'. I'm glad there's such a diverse opinion. I like this film and that is my opinion. That is what cinema is all about. Giving people the chance to voice an opinion.

this truly is a beautiful film, a lot of the scenes are subtle and don’t seem to have much meaning but it all ties in the end and that’s great.

Sofia Coppola knows how to use music in her movies. Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette are others of hers that use music well.

Loved this film. Steven Dorff is a very underrated actor! His measured performance in this film was outstanding! Good idea by Coppola not to make the Johnny Marco character an entitle asshole, instead a more likeable one. Which made the film more likeable as well.
