A quick video on what I believe to be the best flavor of Linux Mint.

Linux Mint is an operating system for desktop and laptop computers. It is designed to work 'out of the box' and comes fully equipped with the apps most people need.

please keep doing these and do not stop like others that grew weary. The Linux community need constant distro overviews. Awesome work!

I really like your format, speedy and concise. Only now getting into Linux after 30 years of saying "someday". It has revitalized my old computers. It's like replacing a team of oxen with a modern tractor.

When I switched from Windows, I immediately jumped to Arch. Of course everything was new to me and I didn't know how to communicate with Arch community "master race"... So, the next step was Mint, albeit Mate and later Cinnanon. Now I run Arco, but I owe a lot to Mint and will always be grateful.

I just like having the most lightweight software possible for the best performance I can get on modern hardware. I don't use more than the basics, so I'm glad that this version exists.

I am using it on a very old (7 years ++) low end pc and it's doing its job.
Wired connection / Chrome browser for light use / Libre Office (Calc only) / printing on auto discovered multi function big ass printers, that's it... In short, I'm happy with it. Thanks!

I have since learned that I use TIMESHIFT on EVERY step- AND i take a snapshot(with screenshot) of the settings as they are originally BEFORE I make any changes--- then if I SCREW something up (as I'm skilled at doing). can go back to the way it was... !!!! I have CINNAMON now-- but if it gets sluggish- I'm just going to switch to MINT XFCE... :)

I have XFCE installed on my LMDE 5-- love it... stable- FAST and easy to work with.. :)

My main constraint is CPU (not RAM) on a decade-old MacBook Pro, so I'm wondering which version I should stick with. I like Cinnamon because of the polish and Online Accounts feature but it's looking like I'll have to give XFCE a try.

What I like is you can ALSO get FLATPAKS of each-- for a NEWER VERSION ANd, I'm not sure why- but the flatpaks seem to run faster and smoother for me.

I've been using Linux distros since 2010. I started with Ubuntu on my desktop PC and my fileserver. I eventually moved to Linux Mint and liked that even better. I've had the advantage of having a Linux Administrator working on my gear, he is old and retired now .... I am a Linux USER and want to remain as such, but as you know, that is not possible. I find myself having to write scripts and do a lot of work in terminal ... more than a mere user ... more than many users would want to deal with. The most difficult part of being a Linux "user" is finding good answers and help when you have a problem. I have found the forums to be VERY unhelpful. Many of the times I've had to ask for help on those forums, I've gotten responses from people who know LESS than I do about Mint. It is difficult to find someone that actually knows the technology and how it works. Bad advice is worse than no advice ... it can get you into trouble. In spite of that, I will continue to use Linux distros and hope for no problems down the road.

I tried Peppermint on an old laptop, but it was dying, despite being modified LDXE with XFCE. It just didn't want to work for me. I put Linux Mint XFCE on the laptop and it worked fine. I'm not sure if it was a Peppermint problem or a problem with the old 2 GHZ wifi. Even with the LM XFCE the wifi has an issue every now and again. I'm not sure what the problem is really. It may be congestion in that area of the spectrum.

I actually think XFCE has the most features out of all the desktops. It does have Special/application specific window settings that even KDE has, yes?

Why should I choose XFCE over the other two options??

One problem is the Thunar File Manager. I would like to overwrite on Copy only newer versions of that file. I can't do that.

Acer laptop with Intel Pentium B960 @ 2x 2.2GHz pros. Installed mint XFCE desktop for about 5 years. Replaced rhytmbox with clementine (best for background music and podcast or stream's), get Gnu-Cash for accounting and Mixxx Dj software for when you are drunk and have a party. I never switch off my computer unless restart after update or upgrade. Uptime is now 6 months!!! Do that with window's, and you will see hell on screen. Running my restaurant for 5 years and never had a virus (sometimes people connect a USB stick with their music collection) or other problems. Linux in global has a very friendly and helpfully on-line community of volunteers who will help you with all kind of problems. don't forget "new bees" there are no stupid questions!! i find the on-line service for Linux with a landslide better than Microsoft..

I have used this but found it does not look as good as the other Mint versions but maybe that has been fixed. It was just harder to see the fonts then on other versions. The one thing I have to get rid of on any Linux OS I try is to get rid of firefox. I have had it lock up which ever Linux OS I am using at the time and can not even move the mouse. I know some do not give you many options on browsers but others do.
